Powerdot and Impressive
presentations with LaTeX
Since early times of studying physics I use LaTeX for writing stuff. Nowadays I write almost everything in LaTeX, even in some plain text files the syntax is slipping in from time to time… Naturally I’ve used LaTeX for talks I’ve given during seminars at university. Just write down the content of the talk and get a pleasant looking PDF file out which you can throw on the wall, even when you don’t have your own notebook with you, without loosing some characters1…
At university I used the beamer package, which provides some nice commands and themes to work with. I was quite happy but got a bit annoyed by the strict layout rules. (Or perhaps just the fact that I did not find a way around them…) So for the first two talks I gave at the AIP I’ve use the powerdot package which is much more flexible.
Zenburn Colorscheme
Usually I’m using vim for coding stuff, TeXMakerX making the exception for writing LaTeX documents, although small edits are mainly on the fly with vim too.
Something like a year ago I switched the color scheme for vim to zenburn which is a really lovely set of colors. Kudos to Jani for creating it!
200x - a decade
Just realized we have a new decade… and while I still miss a word for the last one, what are the five headlines that come into your mind thinking over the 0th decade of the 21st century? Don’t think too long!
Mine are Merkel, we are Pope, the endless war on terror, the Bologna Process and the Treaty of Lisbon.
With all their good and bad side effects…

26c3
There are two chances for vacations from RL for me, one is the Fantasy Filmfest in the summer and one is the Chaos Communications Congress between the years. As this is New Year’s Day and I found some of the sleep I lost between the years this is the best time to write a bit about 26c3: Here Be Dragons.

fighting spammers at identi.ca
Lately the spammers have discovered identi.ca jumping into groups to send spam containing notices or just to sit there and have many links back from the groups overview page back to their profile further to the advertised content. This is naturally very annoying and time consuming to clean the groups you are admin of…
Fantasy Filmfest 2009 my Review
I’ve limited myself to watch four movies at this years Fantasy Filmfest in Berlin. It was a mistake to limit myself but now that I’ve seen them all I’ll have a short review of them nevertheless.
Fantasy Filmfest 2009
As nobody wanted to be my sponsor for the Fantasy Filmfest I had to shorten my wishlist down a bit. Finally I ended up with three films and the short film festival.
Blood: The Last Vampire : Wed 19th August
Based on the cult-anime of the same name, Chris Nahons spectacular vampire-action-movie removes all the Asian idiosyncrasies from the source material to shape its premise into a wild scenario: When he unleashes his youthful heroine onto an army of demons in ’70s-Tokyo, his film resembles a HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL in a war zone.
Round Da Way : Sat 22nd August
“Combining simplified, exaggeratedly stylized 2D characters with richly textured 3D backgrounds and effects, the animation is aces throughout. Effective soundtrack contributions from such old-school hip-hop crews as A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and House of Pain add appeal.” Variety
Get Shorty : Short film festival Sunday 23rd August
Hanse and Gretel : Thu 25th August
“Flesh-ripping telekinesis, a blue-eyed Santa, an evil deacon, a freaky forest of moving trees and a Danny Elfman-esque string-and-choir score are just a few elements that make Yim’s film translatable worldwide.” Variety
See you there ![]()
ChoqoK or Gwibber?
I used gwibber for some time for microblogging at identi.ca it had it quirks with which I could life but was not very happy. Also for my taste the interface was just a bit too glossy. So I kept switching between Jabber and the web interface for posting new dents.
Choqok got my attention two month ago and I realized, that I could write a bit more about that wonderful client. Because for me the answer to that question is ChoqoK ![]()
